Africa is a continent whose story is in large part being told by outsiders.
The voices that are most often heard from Africa are not her own. They are the voices of those who come to find her story and when they tell it - it's with their own accents and perceptions.
So many of the African voices that are heard have had to leave her in order to speak for her and even then their voices ring mostly outside of Africa. Over the years there have been so few mediums for Africa to speak to herself - for her people to share with each other. On a continent in a state of constant flux this sort of communication is paramount.
Our hope is that this publication will provide that space for Africa to speak for herself - to her own and the rest of the world.
We will seek out voices of unique quality and provide them a space to show and develop their talent. This space will be filled with a variety of styles of writing and art. We will try to represent as many of Africa's cultures as we can. It will be serious at times, witty and whimsical at others. We will always do our best to make it smart, honest and above all else - worth your time as readers.
This space will be about Africa - in all of its triumphs and faults, beauty and ugliness. We will acknowledge all of it here. Because you cannot improve reality without first acknowledging it truthfully. The best art is truthful and so - we will strive always to have the best. This space will ebb and flow - the same as Africa herself does. We will adapt and grow to give our readers what they need.
Beginning on May 9th, 2012 we launched a full version of the site - posting fresh articles, columns, fiction, poetry, photographs and other content weekly.
Enjoy what is here. We are working hard on it - we will get better. These are our promises for now.
And now ladies and gentlemen...
We give you....
